Explore the Isle of Wight: Family Holiday Destination
England’s Isle of Wight has been gaining popularity as the ideal family holiday destination thanks to these fun things to do.
The Isle of Wight
This spectacular island in England, which sits just off the south coast of Hampshire, caters for all holidaymakers from those who want to chill out and relax on a beach to those who want to explore new surroundings.
Holiday cottage experts Blue Chip Holidays have put together their favorite family friendly activities to experience on the Isle of Wight. Check them out below:
Shanklin Seafront
Situated on the east coast of the island, Shanklin is a traditional beach resort with an array of things to see and do for the whole family. Its famous sandy beaches offer spectacular views of the island, while the promenade offers a range of seaside amusements and games.
To keep the kids (and adults) entertained during your holiday why not visit one of Shanklin’s newest attractions: the Pirates Cove. This miniature theme park located right on the seafront offers visitors an array of games and rides including mini golf, a pirate ship to explore and mini go-carts that will keep everybody amused for hours.
Adventure Activities Isle of Wight
With over 30 outdoor activities and sites throughout the island, visiting Adventure Activities Isle of Wight is the perfect family day out. Whether you want to get out on the open sea on a paddleboard, or try your skills at archery and axe throwing Adventure Activities has it covered.
With sites throughout the Isle of Wight, Adventure Activities is also a great way to experience the island and discover new things.
Isle of Wight Steam Railway
What could be better than experiencing a bygone era with the whole family, an era when steam was king and everything was big and mechanical? The Isle of Wight Steam Railway is a great choice for those who want to experience the thrills of these majestic steam engines while relaxing on the beautifully preserved Victorian and Edwardian carriages. What’s more, you will also get to savor the spectacular country and costal views that the Isle of Wight has to offer.
Passengers can get on and off at any of the stops along the route to explore the island further and have great views of the trains as they pass by.
Carisbrooke Castle
Carisbrooke Castle has been a strategic battlement on the Isle of Wight for over 1,000 years. The castle as it stands dates back to the Middle Ages, and this impressive structure is perhaps most famous for imprisoning King Charles I after the English Civil War. The deposed king actually tried to escape but got stuck in between some railings prompting his captors to move him to a more secure room.
History enthusiasts can look at the extensive array of exhibitions, virtual tours and historical artefacts, while the castles gardens also boast spectacular views of the island.
That sums up some of the most family friendly activities to do on the beautiful Isle of Wight. Have you ever been to any destinations along the English coastline?
