Location is really important in choosing holiday accommodation and this was certainly one of Samaria Hotel’s top assets.

A five-minute walk from the front doors of the hotel takes you into the heart of Chania’s old town, one of the most beautiful Venetian influenced towns in Greece.  The affronting Kidonias street is steps away from the world of the cobbled winding lanes of Chania’s old town and harbor.

Surrounding Chania: More to Explore

The completely refurbished four-star hotel is  centrally located in one of the most famous destinations in Crete and in all of Greece.

Besides carving out ample time to explore and dine in the old town, the outlying region is home to the famous hiking haven Samaria Gorge.  Measured as the longest gorge in Europe, it sits among a trail of gorges in the protected region of Samaria National Park. Also within a fair driving distance are some of the country’s most famous beaches including Elafonissi, Balos and Falassarna.

The Rooms at the Samaria Hotel in Chania

Designed with minimalism in mind, neutral colors and warm wood floors, the rooms of the Samaria Hotel breathed high-end comfort at first sight.  The big plus in our Executive Suite was the view of Chania’s old town rooftops, a picture that stretched out to the sea.

I immediately dove into the incredibly comfy bed, which was dressed completely in what has come to be my favorite bedding brand Coco-Mat. The Greek company specializes in amazing luxury handmade natural bedding systems and fine pure cotton linens.

The completely marbled bathrooms featured dual sinks, a professional hair dryer and Korres bath toiletries. Korres is another successful Greek company, one with a reputation for quality natural beauty products.

A glass paneled shower area featured something new for me which turned out to be an incredibly and surprisingly soothing experience: a color shower. The Color Shower from Hansa incorporated LED lighting, and the spray can be changed to any color of the visible light spectrum.  There were four options for the spray: Fire, Ice, Sweep and Wave, as well as eight chromotherapy colors.

Other Executive Suite amenity highlights included a very handy electronic curtain system which really made the room dark and comfortable for a day nap. I appreciated the Nespresso coffee machine, for a quick caffeine boost.  The room also offered night lighting and personal reading lamps.  For those who need to work a bit while in Chania, the suite was designed with a very work-friendly desk spaces with international plugs. Great Wi-Fi.  Also, a thick sliding wall separator easily separates the bed space from the living room seating area.

The Samaria Hotel in Chania has a total of 84 room options including: Standard, Premium, Superior, Penthouse Superior Rooms, Executive Suites and a Luxury Penthouse Suite.

The hotel features a full breakfast buffet service with indoor and outdoor seating in the restaurant area.  Expect fresh Greek products like yogurt, olives, local cheese and fruit along with a variety of cooked eggs and breakfast meats.

The sparkling pool rounds out the defining city break quality of the hotel.  I loved the refreshing look of it (didn’t have a chance to jump in!) and how it brightened up the outdoor dining and lounge spaces.

Cozy and comfortable seating areas filled the spacious lobby area which was smartly lined with full bookshelves.  There was a casual bar area too.  The hotel also featured a business room, conference facilities and a gym.

Conclusion:

I found it to be a really great location to explore Chania’s amazing old town.  I think the pool is a great refreshing option for anyone on holiday. The breakfast was rich and the service hospitable.Fantastic Wi-Fi throughout the property.

The Samaria Hotel in Chania is ideal for families with options for connecting rooms and use of the pool.  I also think it can be a great option for a quiet couples’ getaway thanks to its easy location outfitted with every convenience. It is simply a great modern luxury option for anyone that is seeking convenient accommodation. I highly recommend booking a suite with a view of Chania’s charming old town.
