Koursaros Kolonaki: Gourmet Seafood Fusion
Koursaros Kolonaki is a new addition to the continually evolving fine dining scene in Athens. Menus balance sushi and Mediterranean seafood dishes.
Gourmet Seafood Fusion in Athens
Koursaros has been in the gourmet seafood restaurant business for more than 20 years. The first restaurant opened in Drosia, a northern suburb of Athens. The second restaurant opened on Mykonos, an island known for having some of the best restaurants in the Greece.
Recently, Koursaros expanded its reach with a third location, right in the heart of downtown Athens.
The Venue: Koursaros Kolonaki
The overall environment is elegant. Cool colors and 60s mod influences combine well with the lines of art deco design.
The bar itself was quite impressive, an attractive corner to the dining space. I particularly liked the bright pops of color in the room, including the sunflower yellow bar stools.
The Menu: Gourmet Seafood Fusion
Overall the Koursaros Kolonaki menu features a delicate fusion of Asian and Mediterranean flavors. There’s a dinner menu and a sushi menu.
The wine list is features a choice selection of top Greek varieties, as well as French and Italian wines, champagne, sparkling wines and dessert wines. We opted for a personal Greek white wine favorite, a Moschofilero; one produced by the Akres Skouras Winery in the Peloponnese.
Appetizers stay focused on the fusion of east and west, including the steamed mussels flavored with ginger, marinated anchovy in soy lemon with zucchini and grilled squid with sesame dressing.
The salad itself was a journey in fused tastes as well, a mixed green salad with squid tempura and wasabi nuts. Not only inventive but cool and tasteful.
From the sushi menu, we tried the seared salmon tartar on baby shrimp tempura with oyster sauce. Exquisitely presented and delectable.
Main dish selections at Koursaros Kolonaki do not leave out meat lovers and includes a grilled black Angus rib eye steak served with potatoes and chicory barbecue sauce. The rest of the menu stays true to fine seafood dining, including an array of seafood pasta selections and fish selections.
For main courses, we enjoyed a shrimp risotto with white truffle olive oil. My favorite was the sautéed sea bass with topinambur (Jerusalem artichokes) and asparagus puree, baked to a perfect crisp on the exterior.
Dessert Delights at Koursaros Kolonaki
Dessert is not to be missed here. A delicious lemon pie proved to be exceptionally light and creamy, featuring almond crumble and crunchy meringue.
Then came a gianduja cream with chocolate crumble, caramel ganache and mango sorbet. Although I am not a fan of hazelnuts, this dessert was simply gorgeous. The tang of the sorbet and smooth sweetness of the caramel ganache melded perfectly with the gianduja.
Conclusion: Koursaros Kolonaki
Koursaros Kolonaki is a must for seafood lovers with an international palate. Here, Asian and Mediterranean flavors are served in harmony by way of eclectic dishes. While visiting Athens, this gourmet fusion restaurant is one that will make an impression on you. Service was professional and attentive. Highly recommended.
