Syrou Melathron Hotel

The Syrou Melathron hotel was housed in a beautiful neoclassical building. The property boasted amazing views of the sea thanks to its coveted spot in Ermoupoli’s Vaporia district. The area was once the aristocratic stomping grounds of the island.

The Location of the Syrou Melathron

The Syrou Melathron hotel turned out to be just a short walk away from the must-see sights of Ermoupolis.  The Cathedral of St. Nicholas, the Apollo Theater and Miaouli Square, Ermoupoli’s bustling and beautiful city square, were all within a few minutes away by foot.

We loved walking back to the hotel at night. That was the time the town lit up with the calm energy that I have come to love spending my summers in the Greek islands.

The Design at the Syrou Melathron Hotel

The Syrou Melathron hotel’s architecture was fantastic, reflecting the island’s wealthy history.  It was impressive to see how well the building had been preserved.  The balconies were carved out of Parian marble.  The classic details made me feel like I stepped back in time. The ceiling paintings, chandeliers and marble floors reflected the island’s past golden era of wealth.

The unique aesthetics of the 19th century were combined gracefully with the comforts of a contemporary hotel. In fact, the building was declared a historical monument in 1988.

The Rooms at the Syrou Melathron Hotel

The balcony view opened up to the port and the beautiful blue sea.  From the hotel we could see  the islands of Mykonos, Tinos, Naxos and Paros.

The high ceiling rooms offered all the modern amenities of a four-star hotel. The beds were comfy. The bathroom matched the room’s style – neoclassical elegance.

My double room could accommodate an extra person on a plush sofa bed. The room was smaller than today’s standard luxury rooms, but just the right size considering the type of historic building the hotel was built into.

Greek Island Hospitality

The hotel offered a buffet breakfast.  The staff was very open to giving any information about the island.

The owners, the Drakakis brothers, clearly loved their island and loved bringing the property back to life to what it is today. They’ve happily welcomed folks from all over the world since they opened for business.  On a tour of the other rooms, I saw a consistent pattern of aristocratic style melded with modern comfort.

Conclusion: Syrou Meltathron

The Syrou Melathron is a perfect hotel for anyone looking  to stay at a centrally located hotel in Ermopouli.   Good for families, family rooms and suites are available. It is a romantic location for couples that love elegant surroundings. Syros is an elegant destination.
