Radisson Blu Bucharest: Five-Star Luxury

Stylish and swank, the Radisson Blu Bucharest impressed me with its luxury facilities, excellent service and warm hospitality.  

The Radisson Blu Bucharest

Bucharest has several five-star options. The Radisson Blu is its largest – with 487 rooms – but you don’t feel lost in it at all. The contemporary modern environment was quite welcoming, a perfect winter stay where fantastic restaurants and amenities were available.

 

Centrally Located Hotel in Bucharest

Calea Victoriei is arguably the prettiest street in Bucharest – and central. You cannot beat the hotel’s location right on this historic way. It was a 10-minute walk down the street, passing Bucharest’s lovely and most notable landmarks, to the Old City.

Several good restaurants were within a few minutes’ walk, perfect considering the freezing temps, and a casino next door. The sights that are just within meters away include the Romanian Athenaeum, Revolution Square and the fantastic Romanian Museum of Art. It was a 20-minute cab drive from the airport.

Our standard room on the eighth floor had a charming view of the Romanian Athenaeum and the snowy rooftops of the city.

 

Rooms were designed with a mix of pleasant earth tones.

The bathrooms featured a full bathtub with a fantastic waterfall shower. The mirror was even fog resistant.  Bathrooms also had a full set of This Works toiletries and a quality hair dryer. We each had fluffy bathrobe and slippers too.

The mattress was firm yet soft – a perfect combination. Combine that with crisp, cotton sheets and a fluffy down comforter. I slept so well.

The room also had a spacious work desk and excellent Wi-Fi connection. Rooms have a mini bar, coffee and tea making facilities, iron and ironing board as well as an in-room safe. Overall, throughout my stay the space was quiet, dark at night (blackout curtains) and warm.

Service and Breakfast

I found the concierge services to be very helpful and friendly.  We inquired about a possible tour of the Palace of the Parliament as well as other questions we had about sightseeing and eating out.

The breakfast was hands down one of the best buffets I have reviewed.  The newly remodeled dining space was contemporary yet welcoming – much like the hotel itself.  Every morning, we had a pleasantly difficult time choosing from full selection of international and European breakfast foods.

Everything offered was fresh, from orange juice, pastries and croissants, breakfast meats, yoghurt and fruit.  A cook was ready to take egg and omelet orders, and he cooked them well. Service was prompt yet not overbearing – very professional and discrete.

Hotel Facilities and Hotel Dining

Besides other things during my stay in town, I learned that Bucharest is a hot spot for casino tourists. The Radisson Blu has the largest casino right next door called the Platinum Casino Bucharest. We even tried our luck one night, but didn’t have any — not a millionaire yet!

After a full day of sightseeing out in the freezing temps it was so nice to swim at the indoor pool which is located at the hotel’s posh World Class Health Academy.  We then indulged in the steaming hot waters of an outdoor Jacuzzi. A sliding door connects indoor pool area to the sizeable Jacuzzi.  I basically slipped my body into the warm water without much exposure to the cold air.

I don’t have any photos of us enjoying the experience, for fear I’d drop by iPhone in the water, but believe me the Jacuzzi’s hot water jets were so relaxing. The whole atmosphere outdoors was also kind of magical, being surrounded by snow and out in the elements, but having your body soaking in the divine and bubbling hot waters.  It was a perfect break in the day. For anyone looking for more relaxing times, there’s also the hotel’s Bali Spa offering a range of treatments.

The spacious, ambiently lit Bla Lounge Bar was a great place to sit back to have a coffee or drink. One night we enjoyed unique cocktails that were invented by an in-house mixologist inspired by characteristics of one’s astrological sign.

 

There are six dining venues on premises. We tried the Italian restaurant called Caffe Citta. The cuisine was excellent as well as the service.

 

Conclusion: The Radisson Blu Bucharest

For a central, luxury stay with excellent amenities and hospitable service, I highly recommend the Radisson Blu Bucharest.  The Wi-Fi signal was strong throughout the hotel.  I enjoyed the complimentary access to World Class Health Academy (with outdoor and indoor pool, outdoor Jacuzzi, sauna, gym and fitness center). I looked forward to the hearty and delicious breakfast buffet in the morning.  Having quality restaurants within reach, and a stylish lounge bar, was another big plus.
