POINT a: Gourmet Greek Cuisine with a View

Views of the Acropolis meet gourmet Greek cuisine at POINT a, a rooftop bar and restaurant in the heart of Athens.

Point a: Gourmet Greek Cuisine

Scenic rooftop venues dot the Greek capital, places I always recommend to visitors to enjoy a coffee, a drink or a meal with fantastic views of my adopted city.  POINT a, located on the top floor of the four-star luxury boutique Herodion Hotel, is one of the top choices that combines a special view with the opportunity to indulge in a gourmet Greek cuisine experience.

For a look of rooftop cafes I love check out my earlier post: Athens Cafes with a View.

The Setting

Before your dinner is served, you’ll appreciate what surrounds you. What makes the scene here special is the fact that both the Acropolis and the Acropolis Museum dominate the background.

The Acropolis Museum, which opened in 2009, is a dazzling modernist structure housing the incredible marbles from the archaeological site (except for those that controversially remain in the British Museum).  Starchitect Bernard Tschumi is behind the design so it’s understandably impressive inside and out.  At POINT a, the museum’s elegant evening glow from its place in the Athenian skyline is quite a sight to see.

Of course, the always beautiful stately ancient splendor of the Acropolis is a sight on its own from any distance or angle.

POINT a Cocktails

I recommend starting out your evening with POINT a’s unique cocktails. The restaurant has coined them as tapas cocktails. What’s that? Well, a little tasty side dish is gastronomically paired and served with your stunningly colorful cocktail.

Here are a few examples of POINT a’s tapas cocktails:

The Kraken features cachaça, masticha and gin. It is served with a tapas of satay lamb with peanut crust from Aegina island.

The Zeus Cloud features Hendrick’s gin andbergamot liquor. It is served with a Beijing duck tapas.

The Olympic Flame features Sailor Jerry rum, Bacardi and is served with a loukoumas (a traditional Greek doughnut) as its tapas counterpart.

You’ll be curious what will be served!

The restaurant’s gourmet Greek cuisine selections also play with aesthetics and color and were just as stunning as the cocktails served.

Conclusion

It was my first time dining at POINT a and I was most impressed by the presentation of the menu selections — from cocktails to main dishes.  The overall look, color and creativity of each choice makes you want to snap a photo of your dish before you enjoy it.  Yes, most people do nowadays but the dishes here are very inspiring in that way. Also, there is a separate bar area should you want to just come to enjoy the view with a drink.

The dinner crowd was a good mix of locals and tourists.  The view was definitely loved by all.
