The Petani Bay Hotel in Kefalonia

The Petani Bay Hotel in Kefalonia is tucked in a secluded corner of the island complete with a view that inspired me to just stop, sigh and relax.

Experiencing the Petani Bay Hotel in Kefalonia

The sun started to sink slowly, making its way behind a slope of a cliff. The sea was spread out below it, edging closer, reflecting its amber glow. That was my evening view during my stay at the Petani Bay Hotel.

Tucked in the northwest corner of an area called Paliki in Kefalonia, the four-star boutique hotel was established as the ideal getaway for the traveler seeking off-the-beaten track views combined with luxury comfort and amenities.

The Hotel Stay

The hotel, perched on the top of the bay between two mountain sides, cannot help but offer expansive, gorgeous and sweeping views of the Ionian Sea.

The buildings were designed to complement the earthen tones of the gorgeous green slopes of the bay.  The suite section was set aback from the main restaurant and pool area.  The exteriors were a soft mix of beige, warm rust and soft greens and yellows. I loved walking to my suite because of this touch…

Yes, roses lined the stone path to the suites. That simple and colorful touch turned out to be a surprising luxury experience. I looked forward to their scent every time I walked to my room.

The Rooms at Petani Bay

The Petani Bay Hotel has a total of 13 suites, including junior suites and superior suites. The room was spacious and the feeling was absolutely relaxing. The space was designed and decorated with details that reflected and appreciated the landscape of the island.  A room balcony overlooked the property, pool area and a mountain plus sea view.

The Best Pool in Kefalonia

A favorite part of my experience was the poolside area.  The infinity pool was angled perfectly to enjoy the infinite view of the sea.  Comfy padded loungers  lined the space and the bar service was friendly.  There was a small kiddie pool perfect for families.

A lower level featured a set of loungers that left us making tough choices. We really couldn’t decide which lounge area was more romantic or relaxing.

The Service at Petani Bay Hotel in Kefalonia

The restaurant served a full menu of international and Greek cuisine, including a variety of fresh meat dishes, locally caught seafood and pasta specialties.  The full self-service breakfast offered fresh squeezed orange juice, excellent coffee, fresh pastries, a variety of cooked eggs, breakfast meats and Greek breakfast favorites including Greek yogurt, local honey and homemade jams.

A waitress set down a small plate of freshly cut fruit during breakfast time at each table.  The restaurant had both an indoor dining area and an outdoor dining patio that with a full view of the bay.

Spa services were also available in-room or outdoors in a secluded area on the patio.

Greek Hospitality

Another great feature of this hotel was the hospitality of its staff.  Voula and John Iordanidis were certainly the heart of how well the hotel ran.  The couple opened the Petani Bay Hotel five years ago.

Voula, a genuinely warm person, reflected all that I have come to know about Greek hospitality. She loved to speak about the island and was constantly advising her guests about what to do and where to go. She told me that she only recommends venues that she has been and she knows well — as a local.

Voula can also arrange a variety of tours to explore Kefalonia’s diverse culture and landscape and arranges car rentals, transfers, services,  boat rentals and more. Her concierge desk, she said, can arrange it all.

Petani Bay

For me, the hotel was a perfect getaway – away from other hotels, Kefalonia’s villages and cities and the popular, crowded beaches.  There were things to do right there in the bay. A heavenly Blue Flag beach was located just below the premises, a five minute drive down a hairpin road.  There, two tavernas and a café offered eating options during a “day trip” out of the hotel. I also spotted a few local shepherd’s hiking trails within view from the hotel property. The nearest city is Lixouri, about a 15-minute drive away.

The Petani Bay Hotel defined the meaning of a boutique luxury in the heart of an exceptional Greek island setting.  The Iordanidis family has worked with passion and imagination to offer an experience that melds Greek tradition, luxury, and Kefalonia’s gorgeous natural environment in one.

At the Petani Bay Hotel in Kefalonia, count on experiencing stunning views.  The hotel is close to a gorgeous Blue Flag beach.  Great breakfast and all-day dining options.  Superior service.  Luxury accommodation with details worth appreciating. Infinity pool area.

I think it is the perfect place for a couple to relax and enjoy the off-the-beaten-path experience together.
